Now I promise you we did infact go to St. George although I have no pictures to prove it...I really dropped the ball on that one...Anywho, the end of february Colin and I got to go to St. George with my sissy and her two cute lil kids and my parentals. We were all sick with colds so we did less than we'd anticipated but it was still really nice and a little warmer than SLC.
The day after we got back I found my brand dream car and bought it! Its a new Equinox and exactly what I have been looking for and working for for the last year. I am proud of my purchase. Another big update is that my cute little man has glasses! I honestly was not too thrilled about this news at first. My brother wore glasses before 2 and I know he was always very self concious about it. But...as we put on his glasses for the first time he looked down at the cracker he was eating and looked at me and said "mom, this crackers got holes in it" He is extremely far sided and has a lazy eye so he had no idea what he was really looking at. Needless to say he loves his glasses and has gotten ALOT of attention wearing them.
Well last thursday we went on a fun Hales family vacation. Colin drove down with me and Jacki while my in laws followed. We all stayed in the smallest dumpiest hotel ive ever been in the first night. My in laws in one double bed while the other 3 of us in the other double less than 18 inches away...Jacki and I did not at all. Luckily we had anticipated this and had decided we wanted a FULL vegas experience and had booked a room on the strip at the Luxor. So the next day we checked in their. We had so much fun. Here are some pics I got of us at the hoover dam and then Jacki and I just doing our typical thing!

okay...so here are the very few pictures I have from this fall and winter so far. The first two are from Halloween. Colin wanted to be "little bear" which is his favorite show in Noggin'. I thought that would be adorable and I searched high and low for a cute bear costume in his age and FYI they do not exist. So much to his slight disappointment he had to be Thomas the Train. I went to my party as an 80's rocker chick...or something.

I just barely got back from Long Beach for a hair show. The girls from my salon go every year and I got a chance to go this year. It is a girls dream come true to be in a huge room with all the best of the best makeup, hair products etc for a real good deal. I also have actually moved to another salon after the owner decided to raise our rent. Luckily we found a place that had room for the 7 of us that wanted to stick together. So now I'm at Blush Hair Studio and Spa right in the heart of sugarhouse.

So here are the few I have of christmas. This Christmas was bitter sweet for us. It was our first Christmas without Chris and it was harder than I thought it would be. But we were all together and it made it alot easier. And there were LOTS of presents everywhere we went.
Yesterday we celebrated the one year anniversary of Chris' passing. We call it "chris' day". I have been dreading that day for probably 11months. It stressed me out just thinking about facing the reality. But it was actually a very nice day. Close friends and family met at the grave and we talked about some fun memories and sang I am a Child of God. After, Colin and I went to the Hales and watched the Superbowl. Chris wasn't a big sports fan...but he would watch the game. So we got ALL of his favorite junk food to eat. Sausage and Pepperoni pizza from Litza's, garlic bread and ranch, cookies and cream ice cream, and even Mt. Dew and Dr. Pepper! At the end of the night we watched the photo montage the Jacki and Austin put together last year for the funeral. It was the perfect way to end the night. I can't believe hes been gone for a year, I can barely comprehend that hes gone at all. But Chris' mom put it best last night when she said she wished we had years more of pictures to look at, but if he had to go then we are grateful we are through with the first year. I am so grateful for this last year. I really do think it has been one of the best years of my life, which i realize sounds weird, but I have learned so much. I am really proud of Colin and myself and all of the Hales family in how well we have dealt with everything. I am determined to look at the bright side of life and not wallow in self pity. So on to another year...which will be even better than the last!

finally! an update!

I know I know I suck at updating! Let's see here...well Im loving my new job and so grateful for the flexibility. In the month of september I think my body just kinda shut down and in one month I had tonsilitis which turned into a throat abcess which was caused by mono and then two weeks later I got strep! It was so nice to have a job where I could just not go in if I didn't need to. I really feel like it was my bodies way of telling me that I've been running on empty for too long and I need to just chill.
In october it was my little man's 3rd birthday. It was such an amazing day. I suprised him by parking a jeep power wheel in the garage. He was so excited and that made it so worth it. The week after we went to DisneyLand with my family! What an amazing time we had. The kids loved every minute of it and my little man was fearless. He even did the tower of terror. Such a freaking stud.
Its been almost 10 months since Chris passed away and this time of year is already proving to be hard. All the decorations that we bought together...the nativities that chris bought me every year. But this is my favorite time of year and I'm determined to make it memorable for colin. Now enough of my blabbering here's some pics!

Although I've had enough changes in the last 7 months after a lot of searching and contemplating I made a huge decision to move to a new salon. I was at my last salon for 6 years and it was hard to say goodbye. I felt I needed a change and to put myself in a position to provide for Colin the best I can. I love where I'm at it is the perfect place for me!

This will all be a little out of order but that's okay. The first few pictures is of out 5th annual Hales Antelope Island trip. We love to go up and see the buffalo and watch the sun set on the longest day of the year.

On memorial day we had the "revealing" of Chris' beautiful headstone. NuArt monument did an amazing job and pretty much let me design it. They got it up for us 2 days before memorial day and it feels so good to have it finally placed.

Yes, it's true...I went to the backstreet boys concert! It was amazing. Luckily a few girls from work share the same teeny bopper obsession as I do. We made shirts saying "back streets back alright bsb!!!" Some other people made shirts too but I'm pretty confident that ours were the best of the best of the best! It was sort of a flash back to 10 years ago at their concert and frankly i loved every minute of it! BSB forever! HAHA~!

Fathers day...

It's been 19 weeks...19 life changing weeks. I have gone through more in these weeks than I ever thought I'd go through. But I have grown alot and I've amazed myself with my strength. I usually try to post positive and upbeat things because in all honesty I feel so peaceful. But there are nights like tonight, where I'm alone on a saturday night before fathers day, and it makes me miss him. So I guess what I want to say is Happy Fathers Day Chris!

cruise!!!

About a month ago i called jacki one night and asked if she wanted to go on a cruise with me...she said 'sure' and 2 days later we booked a cruise to catalina and encinada. Our goal was to relax, have fun and not do much of anything. We definitely did all that. And mostly laughed so hard we cried. This first one is of us in the airport in Pheonix on a layover, it was 8am and we'd already been awake for 4 hours....long day.
The second day was a "fun day at sea". And indeed it was a fun day at sea. It was formal night that night so here i am all glammed up! The third day was Catalina. All there really is to do is shop so we only spent about 3 hours there, but it is really really pretty and we found some cute stuff.

The 4th day we went to Encinada. The actual city itself is pretty dirty and gross but we luckily did what people suggested and took a bus up through the mountains to the blow hole. The drive was gorgeous and it was real cool to see. We also were able to do some real good mexico shopping their. With our blonde hair we attracted a lot of attention and had guys ask to have their pictures taken with us.

Okay so this last picture is my favorite picture...possibly of all time. If you have ever been on a cruise you know how they take cheesy pictures every night. Well the whole time jacki and i tried to get the cheesiest picture we could. Finally the last picture of the last night we got it. When we saw it we both fell down laughing. I had to buy it!

April 22nd is Chris' bday. I decided to throw a memorial birthday bash. We had a pot luck dinner at sugar house park and wrote messages or memeories on black balloons(his fav color) with silver markers. We sent them off and the kids loved watching them float away. After the park a few of us went up to visit his grave(it has grass now) and Colin drew two pictures for his dad and picked out a car to give him for his birthday.

We had a fun picnic dinner at Wheeler farm with Ash and Annika. We have some pics of these two a year and a half ago on this same bench...too cute! All Colin wanted to do was ride on the tractor and look at the ducks.

One of my favorite places to go is to SpringCity with the Janke clan. So that is what we did this last weekend. Colin got to ride a horse for the very first time and did really
well with it!

I really didn't get any good pictures of Colin in his super handsome Easter Outfit...but this is what he got for easter...a lightning Mcqueen scooter. He's a little timid on it right now, but by this summer i know he'll be racing around the neighborhood on that thing.

Okay! So here's some pics I haven't posted yet. These first few are of my friend Brooke and her little boy. They got the first flight they could after Chris passed away and came up here to be with us. Love you guys!

This pic is of my mom and I in January about to run the St. George half marathon! We look cute cuz we haven't run yet...we do have some "after" pics...but I can't find those. We trained well and did a great job, ran the whole way and finished in about a 10 min mile the whole way...even with bad knees. We want to run some more half(and I'm trying to talk her into running a full with me)but right now we are rehabing our knees.

This last pic is from the funeral...My sis took alot more of the whole day. But this is the only one that i have on my camera. I will eventually print this whole blog out and turn it into a little "hales tales" scrapbook for Colin and me.

For those of you who want to know how we are doing, we are doing pretty well. Our house is officially up on the market...so if you know anyone who wants a super cute townhouse in a super cute development up north...let me know!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone's support and love over this last month. And thank you to everyone who came to the funeral/viewing, for meals, notes everything!!! It's amazing how quickly life can change, I miss my husband and my little family. But I am so grateful for what I DO have, things could be worse and my child is the best thing to keep me going. Colin and I have moved from our cute house in davis county, to my parents house. I really feel like we need to be close to support and love. These are some cute pics of us over the last year or so.

Okay...so I love love love Christmas time...but I'm not so good at documenting it. My mom, sister and I went to see SYTYCD, and loved it! And we all went with the kids to This is The Place and saw the lights, Father Christmas, and a Nativity. We spent Christmas Adam(best day of the year) with Ash and family. Christmas Eve up in Heber, and Christmas day...well, Christmas day we spent trying to get Colin to throw up in toilet or a bowl, rather than all over the floor. We got one picture of opening presents on christmas...so this is it. OH and of course I got my new puppy Nilla, if y ou look really close in a couple pictures you may be able to see her!

Naked Colin

Well...we have had a lot of nakedness around our house lately, with Colin potty training and all. So Thursday night we had our pumpkin carving night, and Colin was already pantless...but we didn't want his shirt to get all gross, so we stripped him down and this is what ensued...The bottom one is priceless...oh, I laugh just thinking about it. But anywho...potty training is going great! He is pretty much potty trained at home(outside of home is a different story)but we are so proud of him. We had his 2 year appointment and he is just a giant, 36 inches tall 99% and 35 pounds 90% We do have to get him into an eye dr, we are a little concerned about a lazy eye, but other than that he is great. I love this kid, everyday he makes me laugh!

Ok, so yes...it has been a long time since I last posted anything. We have had a very fun beginning of fall. We've been to the fair, the zoo, discovery gateway. And had many more fun adventures. Colin is still obsessed with cars, I cut about 13 inches of my hair off, and chris had a case of the swine flu! But most importantly, we celebrated Colin's 2nd birthday on October 5th! I can't believe it's been 2 years! Next week we start potty training...wish us luck!

Meteor Shower

While Chris and I were dating, he took me up East Canyon one night during a meteor shower. I have to say, it was probably one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. So when Chris told me there would be another one on 8/12 I knew we had to go. We just went up Bountiful Canyon and parked on the side of the road, the view wasn't too great but it was so fun to be up with Colin and have him with us. The pics of us aren't that great, but itwas so dark I had no idea what I was taking a picture of.

Ragged Mountain

We just got back from a fun filled family vacation in South west Colorado. It's a church owned camp called Ragged Mountain and it is absolutely amazing. The drive down was rough, our Land Rovers A/C decided not to work...and driving through Moab in 102 is pretty rough. But we made it! Thursday was my bday and my mom made me a special tiara out of pasta!!! We canoed on this beautiful lake and Colin almost jumped ship a couple times. I got to see my favorite cousin Joanna and her cute kiddies. Chris and I did not sleep well tho, because Colin didn't. This picture is of Colin just before we left to come home, he passed out while we were packing up and I think this may be the best he slept the whole time!

Stitches and Fireworks...

Well, we will start with the day before the big festivities. Early Friday morning, about 3am, Chris heard Colin fussing and brought him into bed with us. With the lights all out he must have been disoriented, because he rolled off the side of the bed and slammed his face into the dresser. I picked him up and tried to soothe him, Chris came running in the room and turned the lights on. The first thing he said was "oh my gosh". I looked at Colin and blood was gushing from his eye, I ran to get toilet paper, to try to stop the bleeding and after I wiped it once I knew he needed stitches. So, we ran him to primary's, and spent until 9 am there. He got 5 stitches, and although it was very traumatic for him, and us, Colin was a trouper through it all. I knew the day would come when he would get stitches, I kept knocking on wood that it wouldn't happen too soon. But I have to be greatful that it wasn't worse.

On the 4th we had a blast. We had our annual bbq at my parents and had yummy hambugers and did fireworks. The boys loved them, Colin was a little nervous about it still, but really liked the bright colors. We then watched the sugarhouse fireworks from the street. Colin really liked those because he couldn't hear the loud noises. It was a succesfull day!

buffalo's and baseball

We had our 4th annual trip to antelope island on saturday. Every year in June we like to go and drive around and see all the cool buffalo and watch the sun set. We had so much fun and got to see buffalo within about 4 feet of the car. We also went with my family to the bee's game last week. Last year Colin cried everytime we cheered, but this year he had a blast watching the players...and even more fun riding on the little train.

A Day out, with Thomas...

For Memorial day, my super cute grandma took us all to see Thomas the tank engine in Heber. It is such a fun thing for boys to do, and there are 3 boys right at the perfect age for it. Colin was really overwhelmed but once we got on the train he zoned out and just watched the scenery. Oh, and yes...that is my husband with no hair. He got sick of his long locks and decided to buzz it off to the scalp whilst I was sleeping. A few tears were shed, and then I got over it, now I actually like it.

Spring Fun...

For Mothers Day all I really wanted was to get the grass layed in the back yard. Chris and his dad worked all day Saturday and got it done for me!!! I am soooo happy! Colin will love being able to play outside on the grass, he even looks out the back window and says "outsie?"We have a playground right next to our house and when its nice weather we like to get out and play on it. Unfortunately this day of play was very short due to the fact that colin is practically translucent and started to sunburn after 10 minutes.

Also...Colin had his 18 months checkup...He is definitley a healthy little man. He is 99% for his height, crazy, I know. And according to the charts his the perfect weight for his height.

Easter!!!

We did an egg hunt for Colin on Easter...he had a blast. He knew exactly what to do. After he had found all of his eggs he even started taking them out of his basket and hiding them himself. The Easter Bunny brought Colin a bunch of matchbox cars and some really cool bubbles. We attempted to involve Colin in the dying of Easter eggs Saturday night but he was un impressed. I hope next year he will be a little more excited about it!

Entering the terrible two's

I guess it's true what they say about the Terrible Two's. They apparentely really do start at 18 months. Colin officially turned 18 months yesterday...and had his first full out Temper Tantrum today. Luckily it didn't last too long, but chris and I really had no idea what to do so we just kinda sat their and watched it unravel. After about 5 minutes he chilled out and forgot what he was upset about. I dont' know how I am going to do with this discipling stuff, I am really good at loving him and caring for him, but not so good at ...well any of the hard stuff.

DisneyLand

For Valentines Day I suprised Chris with a trip to DisneyLand...

Just for the two of us. I knew we needed to get away

and it seemed like a good vacation that we could go on for just a few days.

Leaving Colin was a little hard, and we seemed to talk about him around 75% of the time.

We also spent a record number of hours cruising the gift shops looking for things

we could bring home for him. All in all it was really fun to just have some time away.

Now that I have a new cute comforter, we finally got around to doing our first paint job in the new house. Chris was a little weary about the colors...especially having an accent wall. But in the end he loves it. We couldn't have done it without Chris' dad, since we had no idea how to paint efficiantly, or my parents who watched Colin so we could just focus on painting. Painting is hard work tho, I was sore the next day!

Phone Update

So we finally heard back from at&t...they agreed to drop the charges! Yipee! It's a good thing too cuz I was about to bust a cap if they didn't! haha i am such a hard ass!

Other than that whole fiasco, we are doing really well. Colin is growing like a maniac, I think he has grown about an inch in the last month. Somehow he is going to be tall, which is beyond me since Chris and I are practically "little people".

My $7,250 phone bill!

For Christmas Chris got me an Iphone...so cute...so fun. Well in order for us to get the lower price of the phone we had to open up another line for $10 more a month. We don't have a house phone so we decided we could use that as an emergancy line in case we need it.
Well for those of you who have a phone with unlimited internet access you know you have to pay like a $30 a month charge. Well we got our phone and put my sim card in it and were having a great time using it all month.
So we look at our bill and low and behold it is over $7,000!!! I guess since we put my card in the phone the unlimited internet fee of $30 isn't on my line, only the new one. So here we are with an ginormous phone bill that we are obviously in the process of disputing, but only time will tell if they decided to drop the charges. If not I guess we will have to get a lawyer...or claim phone bill bankruptcy.
But a word to the wise...be careful, make sure you don't end up in this situation!

She had her first son while in medical school, and is now is residency...if that's not impressive enough, she gave birth ALL NATURAL. We are so proud of you...and so excited to have a little girl to play with

We had our Thanksgiving a few days early this year...and here is Colin, he got into the whipped cream. I think he likes it?

This past month has been crazy and it has given me some time to realize how precious life is and how important family can be. These are the things are am most thankful for right now...

* Family, both mine and Chris'. My cute sister should be having her baby any day, and my mother in law is beginning her battle with breast cancer, it's great to know we have such good medical care available to us.

*My Home, we couldn't be more grateful that we are not STILL in that dumpy apartment. So many people can't get loans or are losing their homes and we are so happy to be blessed with our cute house.

*Friends, I have a few amazing friends who I love forever! I hope you know who you are!

*Last but NOT least Colin and Chris, my two boys! You guys are the best, we have so much fun together!

Hi everyone, this is Christopher Bart Hales! The Dad in this story. Ellie left the computer on tonight and I thought I would do my first ever blog post. For anything. I'm REALLY nervous. What if I don't do it right!?! What if it is too short?! Egads! What a rush. Anyway....... Colin Bear is doing better now. He is still getting cuter by the minute. Which is amazing because he was already the cutest anything, ever. Look it up.

Also, if anyone needs a job I am supposed to find some people to come work at Discover Card. It is really a fun place to work. Last month our team was the top in the department, again! So the other day we had our top team party, which, had you been on my team you would have been paid $12 something an hour to watch movies and eat food. AWESOME! The PM shifts get an extra 10% hourly pay so starts like $12-ish an hour. We also get an incentive check on top of the hourly rate. I usually get at least an extra $500 per month. Let me, or, i guess, Ellie, know and i'll get you some info.

Well, everyone, just thought I'd say hello to all you people, whoever you are. Hopefully there are some people that I know and have not talked to for a while out there. If there are some of you reading give us a call sometime. Not right now though. It is almost late. Seriously, we are almost shut-ins. Ellie has been making fun of me for watching to many shows with the word "STAR" in the title. Something about fast becoming a dork. I don't know. She's crazy. Even my mom says i'm cool. Nuff said.

Our FIRST Time...

Earlier in the week Colin seemed to come down with a mild cold, I didn't really think much of it, mainly because he didn't seem like it bothered him. So on Saturday when Chris called me at work and said he thought Colin was "really" sick, I blew him off. I told him to take Colin to my parents and get his butt to work.

Well...when I went to pick Colin up at my parents it was obvious he was sicker than ever before. It was easy to realize he had Croup by the weird cough he had. Poor little guy. So we of course did all the things we knew to do with a baby that has Croup...

* we got a humidifier ( a cool mist one to be exact)

* we took him out into the freezing cold (somehow that helps open up the airways)

* we even drove on the freeway with his windows rolled down

But when we were driving home and he started to cough and then couldn't breath we knew we had to get him to the hospital So we gathered up his favorite comfort items, like his bottle, his sippy cup, his bear and his blanky and we headed for a long night at Primary's.

We didn't get home til about 5 am. But we are so glad that we went, the imediatly got him oxygen and steriods to open up his lungs. Then they did a more intense treatment and had to observe him for 3 hours. I know this is just the beginning of many scary hospital nights, but I am just so grateful that we have insurance...and great medical care so close. It was such a comfort knowing he would be okay because we could get him care he needed.

The THREE C's...Chris, Colin, and a Cape

On saturday, while Chris and Colin spent the morning together, Chris had a brilliant idea to make Colin a cape out of his pajama bottoms. The result? A cape obsessed baby. He feels like such a little stud in that thing, and has been wearing it around since. I think Colin has gotten to an age where he is now realizing how cool a dad is, anything Chris does Colin follows. It is so fun to see!

So apparently Ashley "tagged" me and I am supposed to write 6 random things about me...ok. I think this will be hard, cuz I am just a totally normal, run of the mill girl with no quirks...or am I?

*I love to cuddle...but it HAS to be on my terms, if chris tries to cuddle with me while I am sleeping I flip out. I need my space!

*chris and I use seperate blankets to sleep. We realized early on that we fight during the night if we share a blanket, so we each sleep with our very own queen sized blankets.

* I can't stand having my jackets zipped up to my neck, oh it makes me shudder just thinking about it.

* when I was younger I was in a really cool up and coming band called "freshlime". We even had 2 hits!

* my cousin Joanna and I named a section of our neighbors yard and call it Freida Lane. That's right...and we even have a song about it

* i knew a family who looked like jam...THEY DO!

On Saturday we went to BOO at the ZOO. It was actually total madness to be honest, but we still had a great time. We bypassed all the lines for candy since there is NO way I was going to stand in each line for 20 mins for a dum dum sucker. But, we went and saw the animals and Colin was able to get used to wearing his costume.

Well we made it through our first year of being parents. It has been the best year EVER! Having a kid makes all the holidays and just the little things so much more fun. For Colin's birthday we went to my mom's house and had a party. He of course got to eat cake, which took a little proding, but once he tasted it he wouldn't take his hands out of his mouth! He also got so many fun toys, some of which included a really cool tonka truch and pretend puppy. But he seemed to love the balloon the most! We love our little man and I just hope this year is as amazing as last year was!

Some of you may have heard about the movie Forever Strong. Well not only is it filmed in our very own backyard, but it is based on true events of the Highland Rugby team. Chris' uncle, Larry Gelwix, is the head coach of the team and has been for 30 something years. His record is something like 350 wins and 9 losses. The team is not only the best in the nation but one of the best in the world. This movie is based on Larry's years as a coach and many of the events in the movie actually happened. It's an inspiring story and a great movie. Support the independent, small budget movie and go and see it!

As many of you know, I am completely obsessed with So You Think You Can Dance. I think it is the greatest show ever made...by humans. Anywho, my mom took my sister and I to the concert on Tuesday night at the E center. It was amazing, they performed all the best dances of the season and Gev even dressed up like a girl, multiple times. I can't wait for the show to be back on, it's only like 8 months away!

So I have to say that I am dreading the Finale of So You Think You Can Dance. It is by far my favorite show on tv, and I count down the weeks til it starts up again. But my mom got us tickets to go see them live in September, and I am really excited for that. The one thing I am looking forward to when the show ends is the start of the OLYMPICS! Chris and I are huge olympic watchers and we will be tivoing and following as many sports as we can. GO USA!!!

After years of looking for a house, and months of watching and waiting for this house to be built...we finally are home owners! I have to say, closing on a house was more stressful than planning a wedding and having a baby...put together! Even with all the stress it has been so worth it, we love our new place!

We just closed! So much stress has just been relieved!

For the4th of July we went to my mom's house and had a bbq,
had the boys swim in the baby pool, and did the first fireworks
all three boys had seen. It was a good time had by all!

I can't believe the house is almost done, it is looking so good!
I have been a little worried that the countertops, cabinets and floors
won't look good together but I think it all came together well.

So Today is our third Anniversary!!!
It's probably the fastest 3 years of my life,
and three of the best years, and also the toughest.
It takes a while to get used to married life and living
with someone else. By far the best part of the last 3
years has been Colin. Chris is a great dad and Colin
loves every minute he spends with his dad.

Thanks Chris for putting up with me. I am a crazy
wife from time to time! Love ya lots!

Our House!!! We have been living in our teeny tiny apartment for the last 3 years so that we could save up enough money to buy a house, finally! It has been so fun to watch it being built and getting to choose what it will look like. We go up every Sunday to see the progress and we are only about 4 weeks away from it being completed! Yipee!
